Jesus told this parable: “A man planted a fig tree, and he came seeking
fruit and found none. And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Cut it down. Why
should it use up the ground?’ And he answered, ‘Sir, let it alone, until I
dig around it and put on manure. Then if it bears fruit, well and good; but
if not, cut it down.'”
